Health and longevity: There are 92 elements found in nature and an additional 22 theoretical and/or observed elements. In addition, there are hundreds of isotopes of the elements, any one of which may play an as yet undiscovered role. It becomes increasingly evident when studying the relationship of minerals to human-health that keeping the level of minerals in balance in every tissue, fluid cell and organ in the body may be the key to maintaining human-health.
Keeping minerals in proper balance throughout the body, while providing all of them in sufficient quantities needed for optimal health is complex. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to obtain health and longevity. Many of you will be aware of Codex Alimentarius. Codex is designed to place limitations over the amount and even the types of nutritional supplements that you will be able to obtain once it is implemented. I have read articles saying that the required daily amount (RDA) is going to be set so low that they are estimating that there will be 3 billion deaths just from nutritional deficiency diseases over a period of ten years! A rather frightening thought.
Most fruits, vegetables and meats today may look good, but they lack flavour and nutritional value. If the nutrients are not in the soil then they are certainly not in the plant or in the produce that it bears. Minerals give foods their natural flavour. We used to say, ”An apple a day keeps the doctor away!” Today we would have to eat at least 10 apples to get the same nutritional value that was in one apple 100 years ago!
Ideally, for health and longevity, we would eat organically grown fruits and vegetables. The organic farmer takes care to nourish the soil with organic matter which reduces or eliminates the amount of carcinogenic chemicals found in our food. However, if adequate minerals have not been added to de-mineralized soil, plants cannot create them. So while most organically grown food will not promote cancer, they may not be more nutritious.
Senate Document No 264, 1936. 74th Congress, 2nd Session states:“Laboratory tests prove that the fruits, the vegetables, the grains, the eggs, and even the milk and the meats of today are not what they were a few generations ago (which doubtless explains why our forefathers thrived on a selection of foods that would starve us!).
Health and Longevity - Trace minerals such as chromium, manganese, molybdenum, selenium, vanadium and copper have important health effects. Chromium may maintain blood sugar levels, prevent atherosclerosis, and control cholesterol levels. Manganese is part of several enzyme systems and is needed for normal bone structure. Selenium is part of the enzyme glutathione peroxidase, which metabolises free radicals. It is also a part of the enzymes that deiodinate thyroid hormones. Molybdenum is a component of a co-enzyme that is essential for the activity of xanthine oxidase, sulfite oxidase, and aldehyde oxidase. Vanadium helps in the production of reduced glutathione in the liver. It may function like insulin by altering cell membrane function for ion transport processes, increasing insulin receptor sensitivity. It may also inhibit cholesterol synthesis. Copper is a cofactor for hundreds of enzymes. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, everyone needs to supplement with extra nutrients beyond those found in their daily diets. Through time, topsoil used for farming is depleted in minerals, which can lead to the depletion of minerals in crops grown on those soils.
