Vitamin D and your Health

Marilyn Vine is delighted to bring information on vitamin D which is an essential nutrient for your health. Sadly today many people are deficient in this essential vitamin. This deficiency has mainly come about from the scaremongering of the health profession in telling people to stay out of the sun! Yes I agree - do not get sun burnt or over exposed, but be out in it long enough to maintain your levels!

Importance of D Vitamin and Colectoral Cancer

26 January 2012 brings information from NaturalNews with regards to Japanese research published in the American Journal of Epidemiology which has found that the highest levels of this vitamin in saturation levels in the blood lowered the risk of colectoral cancer by as much as 40%.

What role does this vitamin play in reducing your tooth cavities?

Dr Mercola brings information with regard to this vitamin and the role it plays in reducing dental cavities, heart health, cancer etc. The Vitamin D Council reports:

"There were also several studies reported on vitamin D and dental caries in the 1920s and 1930s. May Mellanby and coworkers in Sheffield, England, did studies on the role with regards to teeth in the 1920s. The first experiments were with dogs, where it was found that vitamin D stimulated the calcification of teeth. Subsequently, they studied the effect of vitamin D on dental caries in children, finding a beneficial effect.

Additional studies were conducted on children in New York regarding dental caries with respect to season, artificial ultraviolet-B (UVB) irradiance, and oral intake of vitamin D with the finding that it took 800 IU/day to prevent caries effectively."

and they go on to say:

"Use of this vitamin appears to be a better option for reducing dental caries than fluoridation of community water supplies, as there are many additional health benefits of vitamin D and a number of adverse effects of water fluoridation such as fluorosis (mottling) of teeth and bones. ... Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations around 30-40 ng/ml (75-100 nmol/L) should significantly reduce the formation of dental caries. (The average white American has a level near 25 ng/ml, while the average black American has a level near 16 ng/ml.)
This vitamins role in tooth cavities

Dr John Cannell writes:

”Before the sun-scare, 90% of human vitamin D stores came from skin production, not diet. Large populations of pregnant women and autistic children ingesting small amounts orally, instead of generating large amounts through the skin, are novel to human brain development.” Refer to Holick MF “High prevalence of vitamin D inadequacy and implications for health”, Mayo lin Proc. 2006 Mar,81(3)353-73 for further information.

Dr John J Cannell is the Executive Director of the Council and he also had this to say:

”Humans make thousands of units of this vitamin within minutes of whole body exposure to sunlight. From what we know of nature, it is unlikely such a system evolved by chance.”

The Council reports that:

”The high rate of natural production of vitamin D3 cholecalciferol in the skin is the single most important fact every person should know about vitamin D – a fact that has profound implications for the natural human condition.

Technically not a “vitamin”, this vitamin is in a class by itself. Its metabolic product, calcitriol, is actually a secosteroid hormone that targets over 2000 genes (about 10% of the human genome) in the human body. Current research has implicated a deficiency of this vitamin as a major factor in the pathology of:

  • at least 17 varieties of cancer as well as
  • heart disease
  • stroke
  • hypertension
  • autoimmune disease
  • diabetes
  • depression
  • chronic pain
  • osteoarthritis
  • osteoporosis
  • muscle weakness
  • muscle wasting
  • birth defects
  • periodontal disease and more
Vitamin D’s influence on key biological functions vital to one’s health and well-being mandates that vitamin D no longer be ignored by the healthcare industry, nor by individuals striving to achieve and maintain a greater state of health.” Go to the link below for more information.

Pregnancy and your baby

NaturalNews story dated 16 February 2011 on a new study reveals an association between low levels of this vitamin and respiratory problems in infants. It goes on to say:

A groundbreaking study has now revealed how important this vitamin is for the immune system of the fetus and newborn. In a study published in the January 2011 issue of Pediatrics, the umbilical cord-blood level of vitamin D was evaluated at birth for 922 healthy newborns and these levels were compared to the incidence of respiratory infections, wheezing, and allergies over a 5 year period. The researchers discovered that low levels of vitamin D in cord-blood were associated with a higher risk of respiratory infections during the first months after birth and a higher risk of wheezing episodes throughout early childhood (Camargo, 2011). Twenty percent of the newborns in this study had a cord-blood level that indicated a deficiency of vitamin D (less than 25 nmol/L), and these babies had more infections and wheezing than infants with higher vitamin D levels.”

Sun exposure and multiple sclerosis

NaturalNews dated 8 February 2011 brings good news for people suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS).

For decades, scientists have noticed something odd about the condition known as multiple sclerosis (MS). This chronic disease of the brain and spinal cord is less likely to occur in people who live in warmer climates than those dwelling in colder places. Now a study published in the February 8, 2011, issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, provides a compelling reason why this is true. People who spend more time outside in the sun and those with higher vitamin D levels are far less likely to ever develop MS than those with inadequate sun exposure and low levels of vitamin D.

Sterioid Hormone

Did you know that this vitamin is, in fact, not a vitamin but a steroid hormone? This steroid hormone has an influence over your entire body including your brain and your bones.

Dr Garland advises that:

“It is projected that raising the minimum year-around serum 25(OH) level to 40-60 ng/ml would prevent approximately 58,000 new cases of breast cancer and 49,000 new cases of colorectal cancer each year, and three quarters of deaths from these diseases, in the US and Canada.”

This web page brings to your awareness the fact that a great many people are deficient in this vitamin! In America it is thought that about 85% of people may be deficient and that possibly over 95% of their senior citizens.

The daily required amount is 1,000 units per day. Generally people receive approximately:

  • 250 units from food sources.
  • 400 units from supplements
  • The balance should be obtained from the sun.
The reason that so many people are deficient in the world today is that we are always being told to stay out of the sun to protect ourselves from skin cancers. When people do go out in the sun they protect themselves with sun screens and sun glasses!

A lot of the reading that I have been doing over the past several months is saying that this very protective attitude is what is making so many people sick in the world today!

Through Healthymoneyvine website, Marilyn Vine is pleased to let you know that the optimum time to go out in the sun is mid-day for about 10 minutes with your face and arms exposed. Are you aware that:

  • You take in this vitamin in through your eyes?
  • That you should not shower or wash for several hours after exposing yourself to Vitamin D otherwise you do not allow your body to absorb the benefits?
I also use a calcium product which contains Vitamin K2 and Vitamin D to enhance the absorption of the calcium. Many calcium supplements in the market place use calcium carbonate and my understanding is that this form of calcium is only 4.2% absorbable and only at this level if it contains this vitaminto help with the absorption. Calcium carbonate may also contain lead which is a toxic heavy metal and can affect both the central nervous system and the brain.

The supplement I use contains Calcium (as Milk Calcium Citrate, Calcium Gluconate), Vitamin D3 as Cholecalciferol and Vitamin K2 in the form of Menaquinone, plus Magnesium, Potassium and other ingredients. This supplement helps to support bone and tooth health, support to nervous system, and the Vitamin K2 helps in the creation of osteocalcin, which is a protein that latches onto calcium and places it in the bones.

If you would like more information on this wonderful product please email Healthymoneyvine@gmail.com requesting information on calcium product or use the form at the bottom of the page.

Eliminating mercury from your body

A study published in Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism shows that this vitamin can increase the amount of intracellular glutathione which in turn helps to remove mercury from your body.

Glutathione is a very powerful antioxidant which is made by our own bodies. From age 20-30 the body’s production of Glutathione decreases. I use a very powerful non-transdermal patch that stimulates the body’s production of Glutathione and thus help in the prevention of aging and free radical damage.
