I see in this article that Dr Mercola dispels the myth that neotame is being used in organic foods and that it goes unlabelled on our products. It is good to know that this is not happening. However, he also goes on to talk about aspartame and neotame being a dieter’s worse enemy. Personally I shudder every time I see a display of Zero in my local supermarket or people blithely loading it into their shopping trolleys. What is the aspartame truth and what is the ulterior motive behind what I am seeing happening here in Australia in March 2012?
I believe there is more going on than meets the eye and to the uninformed they would not think anything of it. First, they are finally lambasting sugar and the harm that it does and there seems to be a big push in this regard. Secondly, I am watching advertisements on TV by McDonalds where a young man tells you that he just sold you a coke but is it a coke and then the audience all pull an insert out from inside the outer and loh and behold they are drinking Zero!!!
If I was a McDonald user or a coke drinker and I found out that I had been DUPED like this I would be furious! First I don’t patronize McDonalds and secondly I don‘t drink coke! GD Searle was the company that produced Aspartame. It took 16 years for GD Searle to gain approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the use of this artificial sweetener.
What was the turning point that convinced the FDA to give its approval?
Aspartame truth: It took the influence of a very powerful politician to enable this to happen – Donald Rumsfeld! For the readers who are into “health” this name will be a familiar one.
Before Donald Rumsfeld turned to politics he was a leader in the very company that produced the aspartame, i.e. GD Searle! When he turned to politics and was in a position of power he appointed a new FDA Commissioner, who gave approval for the use of this artificial sweetener.
Prior to this a former senior FDA toxicologist, the late Dr M Adrian Gross, stated before Congress:

Aspartame truth - this is one of the many subjects that I have been reading about for the past 17 years or so (as at January 2013). My understanding is that once the source is removed that many of the symptoms will disappear. In other instances the user is left with the end result. A pretty bad situation for someone who probably believes that they have been doing the right thing in using diet drinks to cut down on their sugar intake! Where are the health authorities in relation to protecting their citizen’s health? Our Government Officials right throughout the world seem to be more interested in other issues than in looking after the health of their countrymen. In fact in some ways they try to bring this health level down by going after the complementary health industry who at least is trying to do the right thing by individuals by advising them what they should be taking in the way of nutritional supplementation to support their health.
