Fluoride’s Effect on the unborn FoetusAn investigation last year by Fluoride Action Network (FAN) revealed that there are many important studies on fluoride and the brain which the National Research Council was unable to review because they have only been available in Chinese. To help get these studies in the hands of western scientists and government regulators, FAN paid to have them translated and has worked to get them published in an English-language journal. We are extremely happy to announce, therefore, that 12 of the studies that FAN paid to get translated have just been published in the journal Fluoride (with more translations expected to be published in the coming months) -- marking the first time these studies (with one exception) have ever seen the light of day in an English-language journal. Such effects could lead to long-lasting defects in brain function after birth. Thank you. Dental Fluorosis When fluoride is used to control dental cavities and dental caries the end result can be dental fluorosis. Some pictures to look at to understand the results of using fluoridated water. Surely there are other ways to control dental cavities, dental caries etc. Wouldn't it be better to see people going into our schools and teaching children the effects of the different foods that they eat both on their teeth and their general wellbeing? Wouldn't it be better to see schools in the Eurobodalla Shire adopt the system successfully used in some schools in Australia and overseas, i.e. every morning the children are supervised while they clean their teeth. Some children have never been taught to clean their teeth properly. Just think what sort of result this exercise would have on dental cavities and dental caries and other oral health issues. When people talk about fluoridation, many of them are unaware that they are speaking of a poisonous, toxic, chemical waste product and not the naturally occurring fluoride. Many of the health professionals and agencies speak in terms as though they are talking about “naturally” occurring fluoride so people could be forgiven for being mistaken. Unfortunately government agencies such as NSW Health are promoting fluoride as the way to eradicate dental cavities. In my opinion fluoridating the water causes dental fluorosis. Surely damaging the enamel of the tooth must encourage dental cavities to occur? But in so doing, do not seem to be aware of modern thinking and developments and recent, and ongoing, scientific world wide studies. Nor are they issuign warnings to the various Councils in relation to people with chronic kidney disease. At a time when the rest of the world is ridding their public water supplies of fluoride, NSW Health is using outdated, and deceptive information to do the opposite - all in the belief that it will reduce dental cavities. When NSW Health approach Councils in relation to fluoridation they are prone to say “People in our Shire have more dental cavities and dental problems than many other areas of Australia (based on decayed, missing and filled teeth (dmft) data, NSW Health). In 2008 despite repeated requests for substantiation of these claims over the last five years, these claims have never been substantiated by NSW Health. Damage to teeth with dental cavities, dental caries or dental fluorosis - its all a bad scene. Dental health is very important to your overall health. When teeth have dental cavities or dental caries it compromises the organ of the body that is associated with that tooth. Heal the tooth and there is every possibility that you will heal the organ. If teeth are checked on a regular basis and dental cavities are picked up quickly - it is much easier to correct the problem before it develops into a situation where it is necessary to have a tooth removed, all because a dental cavity has been ignored. What is concerning our oral health people are the amount of children that are requiring teeth removed. I understand their concern, but there are other ways to help this situation. Why are these alternative avenues of preventing dental cavities, etc not being pursued and an avenue that has been scientifically proven to have harmful effects on both our skeletal system and in fact the IQ of our children being imposed on us by NSW Health? As parents we can limit a great deal of the dental cavities that are occurring. Even NSW Health agrees that diet is a large cause of the number of dental cavities that we are seeing. By ensuring that our children eat healthy, i.e. cutting out soda drinks and juices which all contain high amounts of sugar. By ensuring they are eating highly nutritious food and cutting out much of the pre-packaged foods as possible. All this assists in keeping their immune systems healthy. Dental cavities are a concern to everyone. I recently came across an article by Mr M Amir and Amident Inc 1996-2003 which is telling us that even the toothpastes and mouthwashes are causing some of the dental cavities. So they are putting the onus back on to the local Shire Councils. He then became editor at Chemical Abstracts Service, the world's largest chemical information center, where he first became aware of the health damaging effects of fluoride. He is the former science director of the National Health Federation; he is the executive director of Health Action and president of the Safe Water Foundation. He is a world-leading authority on the biological effects of fluoride and is responsible for ending the use of fluoride in many areas of the United States and broad.HARMFUL EFFECTS OF FLUORIDE Fluoride is used as an insecticide and a roach killer. Even at the level they use to fluoridate your public water supply, usually at the rate of about 1 part fluoride for every million parts of water (1 ppm) by weight, it causes severe problems. As little as one-tenth of an ounce of fluoride will cause death. It is more poisonous than lead and just slightly less poisonous than arsenic. No one will die from drinking one glass of fluoridated water, but it is the long term chronic effects of drinking fluoridated water that affects health. Dental fluorosis is one of the earlier signs of fluoride poisoning, appearing in mild cases as a chalky area on the tooth, and in more advanced cases, teeth become yellow brown or black and the tips break off. Fluoride in the drinking water leads to fluoride levels in tissues and organs which damage enzymes. This results in a wide range of chronic diseases. Fluoride weakens the immune system and may cause allergic type reactions including dermatitis, eczema and hives. It causes birth defects and genetic damage. Fluoride is likely to aggravate kidney disease, diabetes and hypothyroidism. Dr John Colquhoun’s research in New Zealand found there was no difference in the incidents of dental caries or dental cavities in fluoridated areas and non fluoridated areas. Mark Diesendorf resides in Australia and is a well known professional in relation to the fluoridation issue along with Professor Paul Connett from USA. Both of these people have enormous amounts of information and knowledge in relation to fluoride. Both have studied fluoride for many years. Again Mark Diesendorf raises the fluoride question! I think one of the most important documents I have read is Dr John Colquhoun’s Report from New Zealand. Dr Colquhoun was responsible for implementing fluoridation throughout New Zealand. When statistics and results started to come through to him he found that he had been misled by the Dental Profession and as a result visited overseas to investigate further. Again he found the same results he was experiencing in New Zealand. The following are the first two paragraphs of his report. Down the bottom of this page you will find access to his complete report. Please take the time to read as it contains very important information. “To explain how I came to change my opinion about water fluoridation, I must go back to when I was an ardent advocate of the procedure. I now realize that I had learned, in my training in dentistry, only one side of the scientific controversy over fluoridation. I had been taught, and believed, that there was really no scientific case against fluoridation, and that only misinformed lay people and a few crackpot professionals were foolish enough to oppose it. I recall how, after I had been elected to a local government in Auckland (New Zealand's largest city, where I practised dentistry for many years and where I eventually became the Principal Dental Officer) I had fiercely — and, I now regret, rather arrogantly — poured scorn on another Council member (a lay person who had heard and accepted the case against fluoridation) and persuaded the Mayor and majority of my fellow councillors to agree to fluoridation of our water supply. A few years later, when I had become the city's Principal Dental Officer, I published a paper in the New Zealand Dental Journal that reported how children's tooth decay had declined in the city following fluoridation of its water, to which I attributed the decline, pointing out that the greatest benefit appeared to be in low-income areas [1]. My duties as a public servant included supervision of the city's school dental clinics, which were part of a national School Dental Service which provided regular six-monthly dental treatment, with strictly enforced uniform diagnostic standards, to almost all (98 percent) school children up to the age of 12 or 13 years. I thus had access to treatment records, and therefore tooth decay rates, of virtually all the city's children. In the study I claimed that such treatment statistics "provide a valid measure of the dental health of our child population" . That claim was accepted by my professional colleagues, and the study is cited in the official history of the New Zealand Dental Association“ Also the same link on pages 214-215. This is a far cry from what we are being told. There is much evidence available that in fact will tell you that dental cavities decrease once fluoride has been taken out of the water. In fact where fluoridation has been discontinued in communities from Canada, the former East Germany, Cuba and Finland, dental decay has not increased but has actually decreased (Maupome 2001; Kunzel and Fischer, 1997, 2000; Kunzel 2000 and Seppa 2000). Note (part 1) where Dr Mercola explains 1) fluoride destroys human enzymes (proteins) by changing their shapes; 2) enzymes trigger specific reactions in the body by having an exact shape like a key to a lock; 3) when the shape of the enzymes are changed, they're foreign looking so the body then treats them as invaders and an auto-immune situation takes place with the body attacking itself. He did such a wonderful job that he was appointed as Principle Dental Officer and responsible for the fluoridation of all New Zealand. I started to find that the results I was seeing were different to the information I had been reading. I went overseas to investigate the situation and found a similar case. As a result of this I withdrew my support for fluoridation in 1994 because once again it raised the fluoride question issue. It was found to be effective in the treatment of goiter (swelling of the thyroid gland), and in 1924 the United States initiated its use as an additive to common table salt to address the high incidence of iodine deficiency. As a result, the once-common condition of goiter in the U.S. was virtually eliminated. For further information click on the link below: For a list of some of the fluoridation accidents which have resulted in human poisoning, including death, see: Read the abstract titled "Fluorosis as a probable cause of chronic lameness in free ranging eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus Giganteus) " This is about a population of eastern grey kangaroos inhabiting healthland and farmland surrounding an aluminium smelter at Portland, Victoria, Australia. They exhibited signs of lameness. Bone histopathology, radiography, quantitative ultrasonography, microradiography and mutlielement analysis of bone ash samples were conducted. The significant lesions observed were: osteophytosis of the distal tibia and fibula, tarsal bones, metatarsus IV, and proximal coccygeal vertebrae; osteopenia of the femur, tibia, and metatarsus IV; incisor enamel hypoplasia; stained, uneven, and abnormal teeth wear; abnormal bone matrix mineralization and mottling; increased bone density; and elevated bone fluoride levels. Microradiography of affected kangaroos exhibited “black osteons,” which are a known manifestation of fluorosis. Collectively, these lesions were consistent with a diagnosis of fluorosis.
