What a field day the personal care and cosmetic manufacturers must have had! Even today manufacturers are not required to ensure the safety of the ingredients – and let’s face it – some of these ingredients are known carcinogens, i.e. can cause cancer! They are not even by law, in some countries, required to show a complete list of ingredients. Marilyn started to learn about this way back in 1996 and since this time her knowledge of the ingredients has grown and also her desire to avoid products that contain these. She can remember going into her local supermarket late 2008 and standing at the shelf containing shampoos and conditioners. She could not find one shampoo on the shelf that did not contain sodium lauryl sulfate! When Marilyn started to learn about these chemicals and what harm they could do and that many of them were systemic, i.e. passed through the skin and into the various organs of the body, she started reading all the labels on everything she was purchasing. Including food! Marilyn’s first grandson was born in July 1995 in New Zealand and when she visited the family in 1997 she spoke with her daughter in law about what she had learned with regard to harmful ingredients. We went and checked all the baby products that she was using like shampoos and were stunned to find that these so called “safe” baby products manufactured by a well known Baby Product manufacturer contained many of these harmful ingredients. My daughter in law said “what should I do?” My response “”if he was my baby they would all go in the bin! She said “do it!
